January 23 - Bath & Jumpity Jump

January 23 - Bath Day

I may have to post a few videos I took of Maggie later. Here are some pictures of the girls post-bath. Daddy divided and conquered, with Katie bathing upstairs and Maggie bathing downstairs in the sink.

January 22 - Play Group - Beep Beep!

January 22 - Play Group

Katie had a fantastic time at playgroup today. Grandma took some video with her new Flip Ultra. I'm experimenting with it to see how easy it can be to load videos on the blog. Fingers crossed :-)

Katie got chased by a little boy who thought she had her ball. Kinda funny!

January 21 - whoops

Below is what happens when you leave a toddler unattended on the toilet while you make her dinner for said little one, and for her sister, and tend to the dog, etc.

Yes, despite taking as much of the dry TP out as possible, she did still manage to plug the toilet! argh

January 19 - "I'm a MOOSE!"

Well, this is frustrating. I got my whole blog entry written, went to upload, and Blogger kept giving me an error. I lost ALL of this chapter of the Greatest American Novel. sigh... I guess note to self-- upload the blog and THEN do your commentary. So, let's see if we can reconstruct today's entry.

Tonight, Katie seemed to be pretty interested in the toilet paper in the bathroom. She put one roll on each hand and walked around saying, I'm a MOOSE.

Katie used the potty this evening. She wanted me to read her a book while she used her potty. I have no idea where she gets the idea that reading on the pot is OK. Oh, who am I kidding??? There are so many magazines in the basket next to the toilet, there's little room for TP! :-)

Requested book is 'Duck for President'.

It's a cute book about a Duck who doesn't like to do chores for Farmer Brown. So, he rallies the farm animals to have an election. He wins, decides he doesn't like the job, runs for Governor, and then President. ANYWAY... We get to the page below where folks are voting in the presidential election.

Katie looks at the two voters and says, "That's Grandma... and that's Grandpa..." Cracked me up.

If the Duck were Republican.... well, we can't make any assumptions on how Grandpa would vote.

The girls had a good day today, which is wonderful, considering Maggie had been up from 2 AM and katie from 4 AM onward. Maggie even napped in her crib for about 90 minutes (which is great, since little Radley was also in the room)

January 18 - Smoooooothie

Katie made her first smoothie on Sunday. I was trying to find a good way to use up some pretty crummy oranges. They taste alright but are really hard to peel. So, we used Yogurt, vanilla, a few oranges and a heap-load of ice and made her a surprisingly tasty smoothie. Orange Julius, look out!!

Katie cracks us up all the time. Today Deborah, the nanny who comes to the house twice a week, came to get Katie up from her nap. She said, "Katie, how did you sleep?" Katie said, "Uh... I slept pretty good!" I recognize that this doesn't read as amusing, but the tone of her voice was just awesome. Made me laugh out load, and it makes me giggle just to think about.

Tonight, Katie had her second poopy in the potty-- WOO HOOOOO!!! I need to read aobut how to get a child to use the potty more often. Potty charts haven't been overly motivating, but that might be because I never see to have the chart handy at the time we need it. Right now, it's over at the g'rents. I printed out another chart, so hopefully we can remember to use it more often.

January 17 - Bath Night

Here are a few pictures of Maggie enjoying a nice bath... Mohawk and all! Don't worry, Katie had her bath as well... upstairs!

January 17 - Our Little Artiste, Part II

Katie had a good time with her water colors this (late) morning. Daddy left to pick up a new big ole TV from Sears. I think he wants to compete with Grammy Turner. :-)

I will admit I get realllllllly uptight when it comes to painting. Katie probably didn't appreciate me nagging at her, "Don't mix the colors", "pat the brush on the paper towel in between colors", and who knows what else I was saying. I might've seemed a little manic. Gotta learn to let things like that go and let her experiment. And if everything ends up brown, well, so be it!

Anyway, Katie handled my tension just fine!

Exciting January!

Well, lots and lots of stuff to talk about. Am pretty sure I've forgotten most of it, though I did email myself a few, "don't forget this... don't forget that..."

Katie had a big milestone earlier this month. She had her first Poo in the Potty. YEAH!!!!!!! Happened on Grandma's watch, and she hasn't done it since (drat) BUT-- at least we know she CAN! We have tried re-instituting the potty chart to see if that will motivate her to use the potty more often. Unfortunately, the chart is currently over at G'ma's. Maybe we need TWO potty charts :-)

Maggie's first tooth made its appearance on January 14th. What's kinda cool is Katie cut her first tooth on January *15*, 2 years ago. If I hadn't been checking her mouth daily, maybe Maggie would've had the same break through date :-) So far, Maggie has handled teething like she handles everything else-- marvelously well! We haven't even had to give her any Tylenol. Perhaps she has a higher tolerance for pain than Katie had. Seems like we were giving her Tylenol a LOT during her teething phase.

We finally got "tough" on her last week with sleeping. She had ended up in our bed (or me in the guest bed) nearly every night for a week+. Last Monday we finally committed to using the "Ferber" method. The first night she cried for about 30 minutes (this was actually Sunday) and then ended up in our bed. But, Monday, she cried for maybe 10 minutes, then was quiet. Woke several times that night but ended up falling back asleep each time. Most nights it's been that way the last week, but the last 2 nights she's slept through the night without a peep. Now the goal is to move hear bedtime earlier. Last night it was around 9:30. I need to get her to bed around 7:30/8:00, for a few reasons. 1) That's Katie's bed time, 2) She's been sleeping in pretty late in the morning, like 7:30 or later, and 3) Mommy needs some Mommy time to catch up on the blog, take a bath, exercise, watch a movie with Daddy or whatever.

Katie and I went to a birthday party for our friend Alyssa last weekend. Mommy got horribly lost, thanks to Google Maps. The program kept trying to send me down a road that was gated and LOCKED. At one point when I kept driving back and forth down trying to figure out how to get to the gymnastics place where the party was, Katie says, "Mom, how can I help?" I CRACKED UP (which is good, because I'd been in or near-tears just before that).

I finally got hold of Renae and she gave me different directions. I also looked up the gymnastics place on my phone and got their directions, too, and managed to get there a little before the party was over. Just in time for cake!

Katie did get to play for about 20 or 30 minutes. I wish I had taken pictures, but as I was solo, I was more concerned with making sure she didn't bounce herself off the trampoline. SHE HAD THE BEST TIME! Can't even begin to describe the joyful expression on her face. Mom / Judy-- think about the expression on her face the first time she rode the pony at the CV Fair in September!

After the party, she and I went to Alyssa's house so we could spend some time with her and Mommy Renae. Alyssa fell asleep maybe 15 minutes after we arrived. Katie had a great time playing with Alyssa's toys, though, and Renae and I got to spend some good time together outside of the office.

That's all for now. I have tons of pictures to post, but will work on that later.

January 16, Our Artiste in Residence, Part I

Kind of an ookie day today, so it seemed like a good opportunity to break out the finger paints. Maggie liked watching her sister finger paint, and I'm sure she just can't wait to do it herself!

LOTS of pictures in the slideshow below. I'm sure I left more great ones out-- there were 200+ to go through!

January 6 - Song

Katie was sitting on the big potty today (the pictures below don't belong with the event)

She'd been in there a bit, and suddenly I heard singing...

"Tinkle, Tinkle, Little Katie..."

I kid you not. Man, I love that girl!!

January -3- HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Nothing welcomes the New Year quite like capturing your little one using the big potty. Well.... I'm sure there are better things, but they're not in this blog!

Katie is still using the potty maybe once/day. I'm hopeful that a potty chart will motivate her a bit more. We'll see. If she's not trained by age 3, we might just have to deal with accidents and put her in training pants. Still hasn't been willing to have a poo on the potty, but all thigns in time, I guess.

We had a nice weekend. We had a quiet New Year's, but we did manage to eat badly, have a few drinks, and stay up until midnight. If only our girls appreciated the beauty of sleeping in. :-)

Saturday we went to Ikea to get some more stuff for our "WALL OF SERENITY" (the toy wall). They didn't have the red doors, so unfortunately we'll have to go again (oh, darn)

Sunday, Kevin put together my new closet shelving. I managed to get a good walk in and try out my Biggest Loser Wii game, a wonderful Christmas Present from Judy/Grammy/best M-I-L-a-girl-could-ask-for.
