Exciting January!

Well, lots and lots of stuff to talk about. Am pretty sure I've forgotten most of it, though I did email myself a few, "don't forget this... don't forget that..."

Katie had a big milestone earlier this month. She had her first Poo in the Potty. YEAH!!!!!!! Happened on Grandma's watch, and she hasn't done it since (drat) BUT-- at least we know she CAN! We have tried re-instituting the potty chart to see if that will motivate her to use the potty more often. Unfortunately, the chart is currently over at G'ma's. Maybe we need TWO potty charts :-)

Maggie's first tooth made its appearance on January 14th. What's kinda cool is Katie cut her first tooth on January *15*, 2 years ago. If I hadn't been checking her mouth daily, maybe Maggie would've had the same break through date :-) So far, Maggie has handled teething like she handles everything else-- marvelously well! We haven't even had to give her any Tylenol. Perhaps she has a higher tolerance for pain than Katie had. Seems like we were giving her Tylenol a LOT during her teething phase.

We finally got "tough" on her last week with sleeping. She had ended up in our bed (or me in the guest bed) nearly every night for a week+. Last Monday we finally committed to using the "Ferber" method. The first night she cried for about 30 minutes (this was actually Sunday) and then ended up in our bed. But, Monday, she cried for maybe 10 minutes, then was quiet. Woke several times that night but ended up falling back asleep each time. Most nights it's been that way the last week, but the last 2 nights she's slept through the night without a peep. Now the goal is to move hear bedtime earlier. Last night it was around 9:30. I need to get her to bed around 7:30/8:00, for a few reasons. 1) That's Katie's bed time, 2) She's been sleeping in pretty late in the morning, like 7:30 or later, and 3) Mommy needs some Mommy time to catch up on the blog, take a bath, exercise, watch a movie with Daddy or whatever.

Katie and I went to a birthday party for our friend Alyssa last weekend. Mommy got horribly lost, thanks to Google Maps. The program kept trying to send me down a road that was gated and LOCKED. At one point when I kept driving back and forth down trying to figure out how to get to the gymnastics place where the party was, Katie says, "Mom, how can I help?" I CRACKED UP (which is good, because I'd been in or near-tears just before that).

I finally got hold of Renae and she gave me different directions. I also looked up the gymnastics place on my phone and got their directions, too, and managed to get there a little before the party was over. Just in time for cake!

Katie did get to play for about 20 or 30 minutes. I wish I had taken pictures, but as I was solo, I was more concerned with making sure she didn't bounce herself off the trampoline. SHE HAD THE BEST TIME! Can't even begin to describe the joyful expression on her face. Mom / Judy-- think about the expression on her face the first time she rode the pony at the CV Fair in September!

After the party, she and I went to Alyssa's house so we could spend some time with her and Mommy Renae. Alyssa fell asleep maybe 15 minutes after we arrived. Katie had a great time playing with Alyssa's toys, though, and Renae and I got to spend some good time together outside of the office.

That's all for now. I have tons of pictures to post, but will work on that later.
